THE TRUTH BEHIND PASSIVE SMOKING AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT

We are told by our Government, that the reason smoking was banned in all indoor public places in the UK, was to safeguard the health of workers. Secondary smoke, they told us, kills those around it.
If this were true, then it would be quite a sensible law. But there are two major questions here that need answering, before we condemn or condone this law. The first being, is the premise for what this law is based upon, indeed true at all?
Many Government sponsored scientists, say it is, just as many independent scientists say that they have not found any significant truth in this statement. So the arguments carry on, bouncing back and forth, each side accusing the other of manufacturing the evidence, or lack of it. But surely, if a law is brought in, based upon this premise, then should not the evidence for which it was based on, have been proven beyond amy doubt within the scientific world? As we all know, it wasn't, as yet, still hasn't been taken any further.
The second point that needs answering, is if tobacco products are as harmful as our Government tells us, then surely it is their duty, not to just ban smoking in all indoor public places, but to ban the sale and use of all tobacco products everywhere, forthwith? After all, we do not allow just anyone to walk in a shop and buy a machine gun and bullets, do we, which we know can kill people? If they are telling us that smoking tobacco kills not just those who smoke it, but also, those who might get just a hint of the smoke from another person's cigarette, then it is their moral obligation to stop the sales of tobacco now, and to stop taking the enormous amounts of money from it, by way of VAT and taxes?
ANOTHER WAY
There is of course, another way, which is to get the manufacturers to come up with a "safe cigarette" or cigar, or other form of smoking tobacco. The anti tobacco lobby will start screaming that there is no such thing as a safe cigarette, which is of course true. But that is like saying in 1800, there is no such thing as television or the telephone. Because there is no such thing as a safe cigarette now, that does not mean that a safe cigarette is not waiting, just around the corner.
Can you imagine the big tobacco companies, if faced with closing at least 80% of their business, that they would not come up with this "life saver?" Phillip Morris, have already developed a cigarette which they claim is 90% safer than a normal cigarette. There are also several patents, both in the USA and Europe for filter devices which claim to remove practically all the toxins from the smoke.
If these things are already in existence, then think what could happen, if the tobacco companies' arms were twisted just that little bit more, if Governments around the world, forced them to remove all carcinogens from their products, or face going out of business?
A safe cigarette is possible, and our Government needs to act now, to get the ball rolling on this one. If they allow tobacco sales, and take money, in the way of taxes, from the sale of such products, then they have a duty of care to protect everyone in this country from the toxins and carcinogens, which they constantly tell us these products contain, and are harmful to us.
We believe that our Government, as well as other Governments around the world, are either actively involved in, or have been hoodwinked into believing in, a huge conspiracy, which Big Pharma has promulgated, over a period of years, in order to take the huge profits away from the tobacco companies, and turn them into huge profits for themselves. It is a well known fact that pharmaceutical companies are systematically creating diseases in order to sell more of their products, turning healthy people into patients and placing many at risk of harm, a special edition of a leading medical journal claims today.
The practice of "diseasemongering" by the drug industry is promoting non-existent illnesses or exaggerating minor ones for the sake of profits, according to a set of essays published by the open-access journal Public Library of Science Medicine.
Because we have naive and gullible, or maybe, complicit Governments, that does not mean, that we, the people, should suffer for their incompetence or complicitness.
We need to force our Government to sit up and take notice of us, we need to make them see that we are not zombies, aimlessly sleepwalking along whatever path they choose to send us. We need to make them see that we have minds of our own, that we will not sit back and accept every unproven fact that is thrown at us
Our Government has two options open to it. The first option is to retract their statements which we believe, falsely claims that passive smoke causes severe harm and possible death, to those exposed to it, as there has never been any proven scientific evidence published to back up these claims.
We are told by the Government that it is not the tobacco itself, but the toxins and chemicals in cigarettes and other tobacco products, that cause a danger to our lives.
If this is the case, then the 2nd option open to this Government is to ban all harmful toxins and chemicals from cigarettes and all other tobacco products in this country, and to make all tobacco products safe.

There will be, of course, strong opposition to this, from a certain section of the anti tobacco lobby, who have already voiced their opposition to "safe cigarettes" in the USA by saying that they would cause more people to take up smoking.
Does this sound like the sensible voice of opposition to you? It certainly doesn't to me. If cigarettes could be made completely safe, then what possible harm could befall anyone taking up the habit? The answer of course, is none.
WHAT IS SAFE?
Look around you and ask yourself "What is safe?"
Is it safe to cross the road? To drive a car, or a bicycle, or go on a train journey? Is it safe to go on holiday, or swim in the sea, or go skiing or mountaineering? You could be killed doing any of these things, and thousands of people are, every day, but most people do not let that stop them from carrying on with their lives, which involve hundreds, if not thousands of risks on a daily basis.
Look at the ever day item in your home, in all our homes. If you took each one individually, and analysed it, it would become not just unsafe, but frighteningly unsafe.
Have you ever heard of a "safe knife?" Of course you haven't, because there is no such thing. A knife, by its very nature, is made to cut and stab, so what should we do with them then, throw them away, ban them? What about the most common thing we all have in our homes, electricity? In certain US States, they still use electricity to execute people, and we all know that the electricity in our homes can kill us, if we do not use it with extreme caution. The same goes for gas. Most people use it for cooking, but we only have to leave that gas tap on and it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and death.
Even the food and drinks which we consume every day, contain no end of poisons and toxins, which can cause problems and even death. There are more than 3000 different food additives that are purposefully added to our food supply. Some of them are known to cause cancer!
So, what is the answer to all these dangers that surround us in our everyday lives, should we ban all of the above things from our lives? If we did, we would either die of starvation or boredom.
Maybe we should all learn to live with these things, but make sure that we keep them well out of the way of young children and the vulnerable in our society? But to do that would mean not letting your children out of the house, never letting them go in a car or on holiday by plane, or to ride a bike or go swimming, or indeed, any of the normal activities which most children take part in. We would also have to ban them from ever entering our kitchens, in case they cut themselves with a knife, or gassed themselves by accidentally turning on the cooker gas tap. They certainly would never be allowed in the living room where TVs or computers might be accessible to them, in case they were electrocuted, and what on earth would they do at mealtimes? Should we never feed them again, in case there were harmful additives in their food?
The answer is, that we live in the real world, where we are all surrounded by dangers of one kind or another every day. We cannot run away from these dangers, and we should not encourage our children to run away from them. We need to face up to the dangers, and to teach our children the same. No great Nation on earth became great by running and hiding and denying and banning. They became great because they faced up to reality and leaned not just how to live with it, but how to beat it.
