WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BREATH CLEAN AIR
Peter Thurgood 15th July 2008
I demand the right to breath clean air. Where? Why everywhere of course, in my home, in work, in shops, restaurants, pubs, planes, trains, cars, and yes, in the streets as well.
I don't want to breath other people's foul smelling breath, or catch their ghastly germs and colds and flu, every time they speak, or cough. Neither do I want to go home, after a night out, with my clothes and hair smelling of the awful food and drink they have been chomping and slurping on all evening.
Exhaust fumes from cars and other vehicles cause 150,000 deaths per year in London alone. Fumes from other types of industry, such as heavy machinery used in factories, and building works and demolition, cause a further 75,000 deaths. Add to these figures, a further 50,000 deaths in hospitals, caused by the spread of disease through other people's germs, and you have a staggering total of 275,000 death a year, nearly all of which could be avoided by making it an offence to breath near anyone without wearing a germ proof mask, and by outlawing all petrol based vehicles, and factories and building works within a 40 mile radius of any other buildings.
Until this new legislature comes into force, it should also be made illegal for petrol companies to advertise their products. All petrol should be sold without a brand name of any sort, and petrol outlets should also be banned from selling any other type of goods.
Children need to be especially protected. Children's films and television programmes should not feature motor vehicles of any kind, unless they are Eco-Friendly cars, which run on electricity only. Children also need to promote a more Eco-Friendly lifestyle to their parents and grandparents, which of course, they must be taught in school.
Alcoholic drink companies should also be made to take all the smell from out of their drinks, as this could encourage children to take up drinking in later life. Drinks should not be advertised or shown for sale in pubs, bars and off-licences. They must be kept below the counter and have plain white labels on the bottles, with just the alcoholic content and the amount of damage it can do to your liver, printed on them.
Drinking alcohol should also be banned in all enclosed public places, which of course, also includes "private places". Outdoor public drinking pens would be allowed as long as they contained no more than two half size walls, and no roof. The owners of pubs, bars and restaurants would be fined up to £10,000 and their licence revoked if anyone was found drinking outside of a public drinking pen adjacent to their premises.
We all need to be made more aware of the dangers of germs, and vehicle exhaust fumes. We also need to be made aware of our liability to our fellow human beings, by allowing them the right to breath clean air, and not to have to breath our germs and our exhaust fumes.
Tongue in cheek maybe, but THEY demand this, so why can't we?

ONE YEAR DOWN THE LINE
Peter Thurgood 1st July 2008
Last week I attended the Forest event at Boisdale in Belgravia, which was not to celebrate, but to mark the first year of the smoking ban.
Nearly 300 people were packed into the excellent venue, including Dr Eamonn Butler, director of the Adam Smith Institute, David Hockney, Britain's greatest living artist, the Observer's Lynn Barber, Matthew Elliott, director of The Taxpayers Alliance; Simon Richards, director of The Freedom Association; Claire Fox, director the Institute of Ideas and her colleague Tony Gilland; Rob Lyons, deputy editor of Spiked; Tom Utley of the Daily Mail; Telegraph leader writer Alex Singleton; Simon Hills of The Times; and Michael White, political editor of the Guardian.
Guest speakers were Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley (West Yorkshire); Nigel Farage, a 60-a-day smoker (did he really say that?) and leader of UKIP; and "rebel landlord" and candidate in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, Hamish Howitt.
There was live jazz provided by Boisdale's regular band, and free drinks and canapés, and of course, endless good conversation.
Most people's favourite spot, including mine, is the cigar terrace, which is on the roof, and although open (by law), it doesn't feel like that at all, and makes you feel as if you are back in civilisation once again, where smoking is normal, and anyone that doesn't like it, doesn't have to go there, as there are plenty of other rooms which do not allow smoking.
When I left Boisdale that evening, I left with renewed hope that something would be done about the smoking ban. Overturned? Maybe not, but I could certainly smell the whiff of some amendments on the horizon. After all, this wasn't just a group of old men down the pub having a moan about the ban, not that they are not entitled to, but this was a large group of movers and shakers, people with some influence, and I felt that together, we are going to make something positive happen. Watch this space.

Ireland Derails a Bid to Recast Europes Rules
But Brown will not honour it
Europe was thrown into political turmoil on Friday by Irelands rejection of the Lisbon Treaty, a painstakingly negotiated blueprint for consolidating the European Unions power and streamlining its increasingly unwieldy bureaucracy.
The defeat of the treaty, by a margin of 53.4 percent to 46.6 percent, was the result of a highly organized no campaign that had played to Irish voters deepest visceral fears about the European Union. For all its benefits, many people in Ireland and in Europe feel that the union is remote, undemocratic and ever more inclined to strip its smaller members of the right to make their own laws and decide their own futures.
The repercussions of Fridays vote are enormous. To take effect, the treaty must be ratified by all 27 members of the European Union. So the defeat by a single country, even one as small as Ireland, has the potential effect of stopping the whole thing cold.
BUT
Our unelected Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, is now insisting that it is up to Ireland to come up with a way out of the turmoil that has rocketed Brussels.
No it is not, Mr Brown
It is up to you to once and for all, prove your credentials, by honouring the Irish free vote, and to honour your promise to give the people of Great Britain the chance to have their say on this agreement also.
Gordon Brown is acting like Robert Mugabe on this very important issue. He will not accept the will of the people.
We say this is not good enough, we must force this dishonorable man to accept our rights to a free vote and to accept that vote.

NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL "REAL SCIENCE"
10th June 2008
Smoking can lead to loss of hearing, according to new research.
A team of eggsperts found a link between how much somebody smokes, and for how long, and their chances of suffering deafness.
A total of 4,083 men and women between the ages of 53 and 67 were recruited from across seven European countries, including Germany, Belgium and the UK. All the recruits had worked in either bell foundries or discos.
The eggsperts found a "significant association" between how much somebody smoked and for how many years (known as ear-pack years) and high-frequency hearing loss, such as not being able to hear the eggsperts advice, even when it was for free.
"The higher significance when testing the association with ear-pack years gives support to the hypothesis that the effect of smoking on hearing loss is dose-related," the study said. "In this study, we observed a highly significant association in more than half of our subsamples, consistently indicating a deleterious effect on high-frequency hearing."
Erik Frankensen, doctor of biomediocrity sciences at the University of A-Twerp in Belgium and lead author on the paper, said it was difficult to say how much higher risk people had of suffering hearing loss if they smoked, as many of the subjects had difficulty in removing the cigarettes from their earholes after long periods of time.
But he said the association was linear - with higher numbers of cigarettes stuffed into the earholes, the more smoking would lead to greater hearing loss.
"The relationship became much stronger with more smoking, which says that the effect of smoking on hearing loss is linear. It starts getting worse once you have smoked regularly for more than fifty to seventy years. And it does not matter when you smoked, whether it is now or as a baby in your cot. Once the damage is done, it's done. It does not repair, even if you remove all the cigarettes from out of your ears."

Scientists are here to help us
God help us
Most people now recognise the total unreliability of scientists, who act like performing dogs in a circus, eager to please their master, who pats them on the head and stuffs a handful of sweeties into their ever open mouths at the end of each act.
We have all seen how facts and figures can be manipulated to fit any given situation. If you have enough money, you can buy a new set of "scientific facts" for your organisation. They will fit your remit perfectly, telling your clients that if they buy your products, not only will they be getting the best products available in the world, but at the same time, they will also be helping to save the planet. Can you imagine having enough money to be able to pay for a service like this, and to have it signed off by a well known scientific agency to boot?
Gordon Brown and his Government do have this money, which admittedly is ours, not theirs but that hasn't stopped them using it They have commissioned one "scientific" report after another in order to con us into believing that we are harming the planet, or harming ourselves, or harming those around us.
The reason they want us to believe all this clap-trap, is so that we won't mind when they impose yet more taxes upon us, a green tax, an environmental tax, a tax to help us stop smoking, a tax to help us stop drinking, a tax to help us stop using our cars so much, etc., etc.
What angers me, and I would think, the majority of the British public, is that Gordon and his gang, really think that we believe all this rubbish. Just because Labour was voted in three times in succession, does not mean that we are all stupid. Most of those who voted Labour in, have since learned their lesson the hard way, and wouldn't vote for them again, if they paid them to.
We have all heard the "scientific evidence" which was paid for and produced for New Labour, which said that second hand smoke was harmful to those around it. This "scientific clap-trap" resulted in the smoking ban which is now crippling Britain and destroying our social lives. No real scientific proof, has ever been put forward to back this ludicrous claim, but still we are lumbered with the ban that came with it.
Some might say what do I know, as I am not a scientist. Maybe not, but I am willing to read and learn, and I can say in all honesty that nothing I have read from any of the Government backed sources of these reports, has made me believe that there is any truth in them, and I am not alone.
Journalist, Geoffrey Lean, who has covered science for 30 years, has written a marvellous article on the dangerous arrogance surrounding so called scientific proof, which has replaced honest debate. Read his article here.

DEPP THREATENS TO BREAK SMOKE BAN
Although this article is over a year old, it is still good to see and read, and apparently Johnny still feels the same today.
JOHNNY DEPP has vowed to defy any smoking ban imposed in Britain and attacks similar enforcements in his native America.
The actor, who is thought to have a home in the south of England, has cut down on his nicotine habit, but believes smokers should be allowed to quit on their own, without being alienated.
He threatens, "I'll come over and have a smoke-a-thon. They've taken that whole pretzel and stretched it into as absurd pretzel as I've ever seen.
"Obviously it ain't good for you, and I don't condone it or recommend it, but everyone has to find their own way out of it. The idea of bludgeoning people and telling them that if they smoke they are awful is ludicrous."

German ban goes up in smoke
There's a war going on in Germany, and this time, they're winning
I'm talking about the German smoking ban, currently jammed firmly in reverse gear. Angela Merkel's government has faithfully copied the tactics employed by our own beloved Nu-Labour - lies, propaganda and junk science - yet they've failed miserably in theface of people-power.
Remember when we were being told our pubs had nothing to fear from the smoking ban? How commercially successful it had been in Ireland and the USA, where bars were teeming with 'new' customers?
In my discussions with German landlords and their customers, when I inform them of the damage it's doing to our own licenced trade I'm always met with gobsmacked, shocked surprise.
"No-oooo! You Englishers WANTED your smoking ban! Your pubs are all very busy now, we know this. Ya?"
They're being spoon-fed the same diet of State-sponsored bull***t that we were. They are told we Brits have all 'embraced' our ban, that our pubs and clubs have never been so busy, and that most smokers are giving up the weed as a direct result.

A CALL TO ACTION
I have just read a very interesting article about a group of men known as The 43 Group.
The group were made up from Jewish former servicemen, forty three of them in fact, hence their name. They united together after World War II, to fight against Sir Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts on to the streets of East London.
These men had all fought in the war against the Nazis in Germany. They had seen the atrocities that had been carried out in the concentrations camps of Belsen and Auschwitz against their fellow men, most of whom were Jews.
They came home after the war, expecting never to see or hear of that type of thing again, but they were shocked to see Sir Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts, back on to the streets of East London once again, preaching their messages of hate against the Jews.
The Labour Government of the day would do nothing positive to help them, and the more Mosley's men shouted, the more support they seemed to gain. There was only one thing for it, and that was to fight fire with fire, and so The 43 Group was formed.
You might wonder why I am mentioning this here, on a pro-smoking site. Firstly, this is not just a pro-smoking site, it is a pro-freedom site, and these men fought for their freedom, and in the end they deservedly won that freedom.
I am not trying to say, in any way, that the plight of the smokers in this country, can be equated with the terrible atrocities that happened to the Jews during the war. What I am saying, is that if the 15 million smokers in this country want any form of their freedom back, then they should take a leaf out of these men's book, and stand up and fight for those rights.
Look at these similarities:
1. Mosley tried to dress up his post-war campaign as merely being in favour of European unity - "Europe: A Nation!" was his favoured battle-cry.
2. The lack of organised resistance on the Continent had led to the Holocaust, the results of which had been witnessed by many British servicemen who were at the liberation of Dachau and Belsen.
3. It is a chilling thought, but there can be no doubt that there would have been plenty of people willing to operate the gas chambers in this country.

THE TRUTH BEHIND PASSIVE SMOKING AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT
Sign the petition here
We are told by our Government, that the reason smoking was banned in all indoor public places in the UK, was to safeguard the health of workers. Secondary smoke, they told us, kills those around it.
If this were true, then it would be quite a sensible law. But there are two major questions here that need answering, before we condemn or condone this law. The first being, is the premise for what this law is based upon, indeed true at all?
Many Government sponsored scientists, say it is, just as many independent scientists say that they have not found any significant truth in this statement. So the arguments carry on, bouncing back and forth, each side accusing the other of manufacturing the evidence, or lack of it. But surely, if a law is brought in, based upon this premise, then should not the evidence for which it was based on, have been proven beyond amy doubt within the scientific world? As we all know, it wasn't, as yet, still hasn't been taken any further.
The second point that needs answering, is if tobacco products are as harmful as our Government tells us, then surely it is their duty, not to just ban smoking in all indoor public places, but to ban the sale and use of all tobacco products everywhere, forthwith? After all, we do not allow just anyone to walk in a shop and buy a machine gun and bullets, do we, which we know can kill people? If they are telling us that smoking tobacco kills not just those who smoke it, but also, those who might get just a hint of the smoke from another person's cigarette, then it is their moral obligation to stop the sales of tobacco now, and to stop taking the enormous amounts of money from it, by way of VAT and taxes? more

Just 7,500 smoking voters can wipe out Labour's Commons majority
Charles Clarke releases 'doomsday list' of Labour MPs at risk
Peter Thurgood 25th March 2008
The Government say that there are approximately 15 million smokers in the UK. I think this is a very low estimate, which in reality is something more like 20 to 25 million.
Nevertheless, whatever the figure, it is still a substantial number of people, all of whom have the right to vote.
Imagine what would happen if all those smokers stood together as a political force, and demanded rights for smokers. Even the lowest figure, of just 15 million, could decide the outcome of the next General Election, or even, as Charles Clarke says, just 7,500.

Puritanism - "The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy" By H L Mencken
Imagine telling somebody twenty years ago that by 2007, it would be illegal to smoke in a pub or bus shelter or your own vehicle or that there would be £80 fines for dropping cigarette butts, or that the words "tequila slammer" would be illegal or the government would mandate what angle a drinker's head in an advertisement may be tipped at, or that it would be illegal to criticise religions or homosexuality, or rewire your own house, or that having sex after a few drinks would be classed as rape or that the State would be confiscating children for being overweight. Imagine telling them the government would be contemplating ration cards for fuel and even foods, that every citizen would be required to carry an ID card filled with private information which could be withdrawn at the state's whim. They'd have thought you a paranoid loon.

The Dutch are even crazier than we are
27th March 2008
From July 1st, the Dutch will also have a smoking ban in place, very similar to what we have here in the UK, but with one exception.
People in Holland will still be able to go into a "coffee shop", where drugs, which are illegal in this country and most of the rest of Europe, such as marijuana or cannabis, are sold openly across the counter, and smoke these products, accompanied by a cup of coffee of course.
But, and here's the rub, they must not, mix their drugs with tobacco, for as we all know, tobacco, in any form, will not only kill you, but everyone else around you, including the poor chap making the coffee, as well as mine host, the friendly Dutch drug dealer.
Police will be making regular visits to these dens, to ensure no one there is smoking the "wrong" kind of weed, and God help anyone that is caught, for they will surely be encumbered with a massive fine, or maybe even imprisonment.
This is not an April Fool's joke, for there are still 5 more days until then. This is reality, Dutch style. Read more

SMOKING HEROES
These days, we are told that smokers are nasty, horrible people, who are trying to kill everyone around them. Most people with enough common sense, do not believe this, and question the dubious Government based "facts" which the populace are indoctrinated with, almost night and day.
Here, for those too young to remember, and for those who still do remember, are facts and pictures of our forefathers and mothers, who smoked and brought us up, and who played their part in making the world a free place.
We are losing that well earned freedom today. Let us look back at these heroes of our past, and pray that one day in the not too distant future, our freedom will be regained.

A New Publication and a Good Initiative 12th March 2008
We are glad to address our readers to the new publication The Smoker Magazine, from Great Britain.
The Smoker Magazine seems a worthy initiative. In particular we note here the magazine's online Petition to Her Majesty's Government, calling for the UK Government to act on the following: "We are told by the Government that it is not the tobacco itself, but the toxins and chemicals in cigarettes and other tobacco products that cause a danger to our lives. If this is the case, The Smoker Magazine calls upon this Government to ban all harmful toxins and chemicals from cigarettes and all other tobacco products in this country, and to make all tobacco products safe." THE SCIENCE OF JUNKOLOGY
The latest scare to hit the streets, involves plastic bags.
We have been bombarded with photos of sea creatures tangled up in torn sheets of plastic bags. We have been told that they swallow the bags and die of suffocation. Even creatures as big as whales are dying of this, so we are told.
We are also told by our "scientists" and "environmentalists" that plastic bags are the scourge of the world, and that they cause 100,000 marine deaths a year, and worse still, that they take up to 1000 years to disintegrate. The real fact is that plastic bags are unlikely to survive longer than 10 to 20 years at the most. As for the bags playing any sort of pivotal role in the deaths of sea mammals, there is absolutely no hard facts to back up this claim whatsoever.
Yet while these "facts" and "figures" are being dished out, in order to save the world by making us all pay more taxes, we have other bodies, such as WWF and Greenpeace, openly disputing these "facts".
Colin Butfield of WWF states "It's a problem when you see governments basing their recommendations on science that's no longer accurate".
Dr David Santillo of Greenpeace, states "It is unlikely that many animals are killed by plastic bags. The evidence shows just the opposite".
Lord Taverne, chairman of Sense about Science, states, "This is an example where bad science leads to bad decisions which are counter- productive".
So, the "facts" and "figures" which were given out by our "scientists" in order to make us give up free plastic bags, were these "facts" all wrong? Shouldn't we believe our "scientists" any more? After all, why should they tell us lies?
But, haven't we heard these same sort of "facts" and "figures" before somewhere?
Go back over the years and you will no doubt remember lots of them. The egg scares, the mad cow disease scares, bird flu, aids, asbestos, to name but a few, and all of these we were assured by our scientists, were most definitely going to kill us all.
But the most recent set of "facts" and "figures" which bear any resemblance at all to the new "plastic bag scare", is the smoking scare. Even the wildly exaggerated sets of figures, which range, between scientist to scientist, from anything between 10 deaths per year to millions.
How these "experts", get such wildly different sets of figures is beyond me. You would think that if something had a basis of truth to it, then at least the figures would have some resemblance to each other? But as we all know, they do not. In fact just the opposite.
The same thing applies to the "facts". Smoking, they tell us, not only kills the smoker, but also kills anyone in the vicinity, who might happen to breath in some of the smoke. Now if this were true, then it would mean that there would be no such a thing as an old smoker. But as we all know, there are many, in fact, millions, of them. It would also mean that we would never see any wives or children belonging to smokers, as they too, would be dead from the second hand smoke which they had inhaled.
In fact anyone who had ever been in a pub or a restaurant, prior to last summer, would also be dead. Spain and Greece, to name just two, would not exist, as they both allow smoking, so that would mean that all their countrymen and woman would be dead as well.
Where, I ask, did our so called "scientists" dig these "facts" and "figures" up from? And worse still, how on earth did they ever manage to get anyone to believe in them?
It seems that at last, people are starting to ask questions, and not before time.
Junk science is at long last being showed up for what it is.

THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG
So many people have taken and accepted for granted the ban on smoking in enclosed public places. I have heard it said hundreds of times, 'Oh well, I suppose it was inevitable'.
I disagree 100%, as Benjamin Franklin said, 'Only two things are certain in life, death and taxes' I certainly don't remember him mentioning anything about banning smoking.
If a person doesn't want to smoke, or breath in other people's smoke, then that is their decision and their right. Just as it should also be, for those people who do wish to smoke. According to the laws on equal rights, and the European Human rights laws, everyone should be free to make their own choice of lifestyle, as long as that lifestyle doesn't cause harm to others in any way.

COMPAIN TO STOP THE LIES ON PASSIVE SMOKING
I am sure that many of you will have seen that awful advert which is screened on UK Gold. The advert is initiated by the EU., and states that there are 19,000 deaths every year in Europe, caused through passive smoking.
As we all know, this is nothing more than a blatant lie. There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that Passive smoking is harmful.
Why are these people allowed to get away with such lies and propaganda? The only reason they do, is because so many of us sit back and take this rubbish as gospel, we do not question what they are saying.
But you can question it, and indeed you must question it, and hopefully put a stop to this type of thing once and for all. Log onto the advertising standards site at http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/ There you will see how to complain. The advert we are talking about is as follows: EU Advert, UK GOLD 30th Jan. 10.45pm where they falsely claim that there are 19000 deaths a year caused from passive smoking.
Do it today, don't let them get away with their lies and taking away yet more of our freedom.

THE SMOKING SOLUTION
by Peter Thurgood
There is a vast number of people in this country who do not smoke, but they are not all anti smokers, just as there were a vast number of non Jews in Germany, who were not all anti Jewish. Like them, so many people in this country are fed up with the constant propaganda and eternal din, Smoker, Smoker, Smoker. So when the smoking shelters were introduced, and smokers were also told that they could stand outside to smoke, the general public accepted this, as the German public did in the 1930s, with the same relish, that maybe, the smokers might now be left in peace.
But being left in peace was far from our Government's intentions when dealing with the Smoking Problem. They were determined to intensify their campaign of hatred and propaganda aimed at the smoker, backed up with completely unfounded scare stories and sets of figures. Within the last week or so, we have even been lambasted with a TV advert claiming that "every year tobacco kills 19000 Europeans - who don't smoke."
These figures of course, are a complete fabrication, plucked out of the air.

The truth about cancer Cancer isn't one single disease. There are more than 200 types of cancer, each with different causes, symptoms and treatments. The most common types of cancer in the UK are No 1. breast, No 2. lung, No 3. bowel and No 4. Prostate. Together, these make up over half of all cancer cases. This means that that these top 4 cancers, could at the most, only be appointed to approximately 12.5% each, of all the different types of Cancer. Therefor, if lung cancer only accounts for 12.5% of all cancer cases in the UK, why is "smoking" used as the most common cause of all cancers? The figures just do not add up. How it affects us Over a quarter of a million people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. There is an estimated 14 million smokers in the UK. This means that according to these figures, 56 smokers catch cancer every year, and 249,944 non smokers catch cancer every year. With these rather dubious figures at hand, Cancer Research UK, still say that several hundred people die each year from lung cancer caused by passive smoking, which seems very strange, as that figure is higher than the actual smokers that die of cancer? While different cancers affect different people, the overall risk of developing cancer rises as we get older. This means that, as our population is ageing, more people are getting cancer. The risk of lung cancer increases with age. Three-quarters of lung cancer deaths occur in people over 65. But, of course, there are many different reasons for catching cancer, including Radon gas. Radon is estimated to cause about 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year, according to EPA's 2003 Assessment of Risks from Radon in Homes (EPA 402-R-03-003). The numbers of deaths from other causes are taken from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention's 1999-2001 National Centre for Injury Prevention and Control Report and 2002 National Safety Council Reports. Working environment Exposure to industrial carcinogens in the workplace (such as asbestos, nickel and chromium) also increases the risk of lung cancer. Diet A diet that is rich in fruit may slightly reduce the risk of the disease. Social background Lung cancer rates are strongly linked to socio-economic deprivation. Rates in the most deprived groups are two to three times higher than the least deprived. Figures taken from Cancer Research UK

SMOKING BAN TO BE OVERTURNED? by Peter Thurgood 16th January 2008
Smokers who are banned from bars and restaurants will smoke more in their own homes, thus endangering their children and other non smokers in their homes. At least that is the theory, but is there any real evidence that ETS environmental tobacco smoke, or 'second-hand smoke' poses a health threat to those who live with smokers? The supposed link between second-hand smoke and an increased level of illness seems almost plausible at first glance, but when the so called link is investigated more thoroughly, there is absolutely no evidence of any real link between ETS and cancer. The anti-smoking group ASH, suggests the risk of lung cancer for non-smokers is about 10 cases per 100,000 people, or 1 in 10,000. There have been many studies by various groups hoping to prove the dreaded link between ETS and cancer. To date, none have come up with conclusive evidence, and studies that show no link between the two, are often suppressed and not published at all. The medical publishing world, has a distinct bias in favour of studies that suggest a link between ETS and ill-health over those that do not. The University of Warwick carried out studies a few years ago, that suggest a link between ETS and ill-health over those that do not. When studies that show no link were taken into account by researchers, they found that the relative increase in risk of ill-health fell to about 15 per cent Any effects this small would normally be dismissed as potentially the product of other kinds of research bias. Researchers are usually advised to treat with extreme scepticism increases in risk of less than 100 per cent. Anti-smoking campaigners use the passive smoking issue as a perfect stick with which to beat smokers. They use the metaphor that, even if a smoker doesn't care about his own health, he should at least be more respectful towards the health of others. But despite the lack of any real evidence of a link between ETS and serious health problems, all the recent smoking bans around the world, have used this piece of unfounded evidence, to stoke up fears about second-hand smoke damaging non-smokers. The smoking ban is therefore an illegal piece of legislature, brought in and based upon completely unfounded evidence. It is a law that must be overturned, or at the very least, amended, and like its counterpart, the Prohibition law in America, it no doubt will be, the problem being, it could take a number of years for people to finally see the light and admit this is an unjust and illegal law.
